From ancient to modern Egypt and all in between: the land that the pharaohs once controlled continues to amaze many of us to this day. My name is Thomas H. Greiner and I am grateful to share my work and expertise in the exciting fields of archaeology and history with you today.

Thomas is a highly dynamic and engaging speaker with 15+ years of public speaking experience. He holds a Ph.D. in Egyptology from the University of Toronto, teaches at Toronto Metropolitan University, and has led tours to Egypt. Thomas brings the rich tapestry of the ancient world alive, translating the latest scholarship into captivating stories that are accessible, evidence-based, and engaging to diverse modern audiences.
Bringing the Past Alive
For more than 10 years, I have been teaching adult learners and undergraduate students in a variety of courses. Fostering an inclusive learning environment and using a diverse set of learning strategies, I act in a middle role between my student learners and the historical peoples we study in class.
Lapis-Lazuli. Egyptomania. Ownership of Antiquities
Thomas’ research focusses on the cultural significance of lapis lazuli and on the interactions between Egypt, North Africa, and the wider Mediterranean World. He also researches, how Ancient Egypt, its culture and “belongings”, continues to amaze the general public in Canada and beyond.
Making the Past Accessible and Relevant
Sharing stories and knowledge about the past in an engaging and accessible manner is a focal area of my work. From workshops teaching how to write hieroglyphs to kids to lectures on the Age of the Pyramid Builders, learn about the variety of programming and events I can offer.
